Jungle Cruise Entrance

Introduction | Attraction | Touring Tips | Kids/Characters | Dining | Shopping | Interesting Facts

INTRODUCTION

Take a boat cruise on the rivers of the world where you'll see exotic animals, ancient ruins and somewhat restless natives. Your trip is narrated by a wise-cracking skipper - beware of puns and bad jokes. This is a classic Disneyland attraction and should not be missed. The Jungle Cruise is located in Adventureland between Aladdin's Oasis and the Indiana Jones Adventure.

ATTRACTION

The queue winds through areas themed with 1930s travel memorabilia -- travel trunks, posters, and even a newspaper announcing Indiana Jones' find of a lost temple. Near the boarding area the queue splits, so make sure your group stays togther. Those who go left will board at the rear of the boat, and those who go right will board at the front.

A Cast Member will assist you as you step down into one of the canopied launches patterned after the boat in the movie The African Queen. The boats have names like "Congo Queen", "Yangtze Lotus", "Irrawady Woman", and "Ganges Gal", and each holds about 32 passengers.

Jungle Cruise BoatYour Jungle Cruise skipper takes you on an 8-1/2 minute tour of the rivers of the world - the Mekong in Cambodia, the Nile in Egypt, the Congo in Africa, and the Amazon in South America. Along the way there's encounters with a number of audio-animatronic animals as well as some of the human variety. Various perils present themselves in the form of a man-eating tiger, crocodiles, water-spraying elephants, a pride of lions feasting on their dinner, gun-toting gorillas taking pot shots, territorial hippos, spear-wielding natives, and even an attacking school of piranha. But perhaps the worst of all is the barrage of corny jokes and bad puns from the skipper. Your whirlwind tour ends back at the dock where you can make your escape from the rivers of the world to a sea of humanity...

TOURING TIPS

Animals at Jungle CruiseThe area outside of the Jungle Cruise gets quite congested because it's right next to both the Indiana Jones attraction and the Fastpass machines for the Indiana Jones attraction. Except on very busy days the line for the Jungle Cruise usually isn't too long, but as with most attractions it is shortest in the morning.

The cruise takes on a whole different feel when ridden after dark -- this is also a less crowded time to take the ride.

Wheelchair and ECV users should go in through the exit and must transfer into the boat to ride.

The nearest restrooms are located around the corner next to the Adventureland Bazaar.

KIDS AND CHARACTERS

This ride is appropriate for the entire family, though the jokes and puns will probably go over kids' heads.

Disney Characters are typically not found in the Jungle Cruise, but Aladdin and Jasmine make frequent appearances at Aladdin's Oasis. Be sure to check the daily Times Guide for show times.

DINING

The Bengal Barbecue, serving a variety of grilled kabobs, is nearby.
The River Belle Terrace is just around the corner.

SHOPPING

Elephant on Jungle CruiseTropical Imports, featuring the finest in snakes, shrunken heads, and other creepy crawlies, is located at the exit. Adventureland Bazaar has a wider selection of adventure-themed souvenirs and apparel and is just across from the exit.

INTERESTING FACTS

The Jungle Cruise is an original Disneyland attraction and opened on July 17, 1955. In honor of Disneyland's 50th anniversary, one of the boats, the Congo Queen, has been painted gold.

The first version of the Jungle Cruise was very serious, based on Walt Disney's True Life Adventure series. It wasn't until a few years later that the Jungle Cruise "skippers" began adding jokes and funny stories.

Walt Disney originally wanted to use live animals in the attraction.

The water-churning piranhas and exploding barrels were added during a rehab in early 2005.
