How a $19.99 Souvenir Sparked a Gen-Z Craze in Disney World

Disney World is filled with seemingly ENDLESS merchandise and souvenir options.

Magic Kingdom

Over the years, we’ve witnessed certain souvenir trends take over the Disney World parks. From Wishables, to Munchlings, to the Loungefly bags that are still all over the parks — it seems that some trends spread like wildfire among Disney World visitors. One thing we’ve seen trending in the parks (and a trend we partake in ourselves) involves a souvenir that was meant to be a children’s toy, but it turned into one of our favorite park accessories.

Yep, we’re talking about Disney nuiMOs! These small, plush toys are $19.99, and are made to look like adorable little Disney characters.

nuiMOs!

They were originally intended to be children’s toys, kind of like a dress up doll, as you can buy accessories and little outfits for them to wear. While these little guys are popular among the kiddie crowd, they’re even MORE popular among Gen-Z!

Kermit!

Yep, older teens and even twenty-somethings are often spotted around the parks sporting a nuiMO as an accessory! We think this trend started with Disney College Program Cast Members buying them and sticking them in their costume pocket or on the strap of their aprons or vest. That was the first time we noticed them being worn, rather than used as a doll.

You can almost always find Emma with Kermie!

Now, we see folks wear them as an accessory all the time! We even do it ourselves. We wear them in our pockets, on the strap of our bag, and even attach them to our shirts sometimes.

Overalls + nuiMOs

An easy way to attach them to your bag is to use a hair tie or other elastic. You’ll loop one end of the hair tie around one of your nuiMO’s arms, like a backpack. Then, take the other end of the hair tie, pull it around the strap of your bag, and then attach it around your other nuiMO’s arm. Ta daaaa!

How to attach!

What do you think? Will YOU be participating in this trend? You can find all sorts of characters at most merchandise shops in the parks, hotels, and Disney Springs, from the Fab 5 to the Disney Princesses.

Disney nuiMOs are very collectible!

  1. I am 52 and my husband is about to turn 50. We each returned home with a nUimo this past summer. And yes I got an outfit for mine 🙂
I don’t really think you can put an age on Disney fun.
