How Will the Virtual Queue for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Work at Disney World?

The Magic Kingdom’s newest ride is going to use one of Disney’’s more controversial queue techniques.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

We’re less than a month away from the long-anticipated opening of Tiana’a Bayou Adventure at the Magic Kingdom, and it feels like the buzz for the new attraction has reached a fever pitcher. So, how does Disney plan to deal with demand for the ride when it opens on June 28th? Two Words: Virtual Queue.

The virtual queue system has become a staple of major Disney attractions over the last several years, and in May of 2024 Disney confirmed — as we’d long suspected — that Tiana’s would have one when it initially opens.

So, how does virtual queue work? First thing you need to know is that Virtual Queues are FREE. Yep, you may have heard that you can pay to skip the lines in Disney World, and you CAN for many rides and attractions by buying Disney Genie+.  You buy Genie+ each day you want to use it, and the price on it varies from $20 to $39 per person, per day. If you choose to buy Genie+, you do that through the Walt Disney World App, and then you use the system to book “Lightning Lane” reservations to return to the ride and wait in a shorter line. Disney has said that Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will be part of Genie+ when it opens.

BUT, back to that free Virtual Queue. Disney currently uses virtual queue for: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Tron Lightcycle / Run. Disney has said that the Virtual Queue for Tiana’s will work in the same way.

So, you’ll have two opportunities to join the virtual queue:

Disney

The first is at 7AM. Guests who wish to join the virtual queue will need to have a valid theme park ticket for either Magic Kingdom (for Tron or Tiana’s once it opens) or EPCOT (for Guardians) for that day. If you have one, you can join the Virtual Queue at 7AM through the Disney World app. If you get in, you’ll be assigned a boarding number. You will go to the park as normal, and you’ll get a notification on your phone when your boarding group has been called.

You then have one hour to go to the ride and “tap in”. Now, one very important thing to keep in mind: EACH member of your party needs to be in the Virtual Queue. You can’t join as one person and then show up with your party of 4. This is one of many reasons you’ll want to be sure everyone in your party is linked in the Disney World App so that you can join the Virtual Queue for your whole group.

Now if the Virtual Queue fills up at 7AM (and we’re guessing it will fill within seconds when the ride first opens), you will have a shot again later in the day, with a caveat. The virtual queue will open once again at 1PM, and you can try to get in again. BUT, you HAVE to be in the park to join the 1PM Virtual Queue — you can’t do it from your hotel, or a Disney bus, or anywhere but inside the park.

Of note, if you’re staying in a Disney World Deluxe Resort and you’re planning to be in the park for Extended Evening Hours, there will be a THIRD opportunity to get a Virtual Queue at 6PM on those nights when Extended Evening Hours are offered.
