Disney came out with some BIG food news today, including reopening dates for Casey’s (!!), the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor, and Trail’s End, a re-imagined Cítricos at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, and more!
One bit of news we saw looked pretty familiar to us, though! It’s a new (maybe?) sundae at Trail’s End in Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort!
The Covered Wagon Sundae was announced as part of the menu at Trail’s End, which serves family-style skillets of smoked meat, buttery veggies, and other delicious home-style food! To top off an already packed dinner, the Covered Wagon Sunday is “a wagon load of ice cream, toppings, brownies, cookies, and chocolate-covered bacon!”
We were distracted by the chocolate-covered bacon and toasted marshmallows long enough that we almost didn’t notice that we think we’ve seen this gigantic creation before! It looks just like the 10 Gallon Challenge we found at the Whispering Canyon Cafe in Disney’s Wilderness Lodge!
The 10 Gallon Challenge also had mounds of ice cream smothered in all kinds of toppings, including chocolate-covered bacon! And it was served in a clear 10-gallon hat (hence the name!), just like the one in the picture of the Covered Wagon Sundae! This massive challenge is not available right now at Whispering Canyon.
So by Disney’s description alone, it might not be exactly the same — the 10-Gallon Challenge had a slice of apple pie, cupcakes, and more crammed inside — but it sure looks similar. The other difference is…you know…it’s in a hat but called a covered wagon! It looks like the 10 Gallon Challenge might have found a new home in Trail’s End!
