The HUGE Announcements MISSING From Disney’s News Drop

We’ve been expecting some BIG Disney announcements. Why? Because Disney just hosted its Quarter 2 earnings call.

The call took place at 8:30 AM ET on May 7th, 2024, and as usual, we got news on how the Disney parks and experiences are performing, an update on Disney+ numbers, and more. But some announcements were missing and that’s what we’re here to talk about now!

At the Q1 earnings call back in February, we got a bunch of updates including a partnership with Epic Games, the Taylor Swift Eras Tour coming to Disney+, and an update on highly anticipated movie sequels.

However, at the Q2 earnings call, we got updates on the future of ESPN, including a change coming to Disney+ this year. We heard that the Parks & Experiences segment saw an overall increase in revenue, and Disney+ subscribers have also increased. The company also spoke about its commitment to growing investment in the cruise business, which has provided excellent returns and high guest satisfaction.

While there was a lot of discussion about the current state of the company and the outlook for the future, there were also a few announcements that we didn’t hear much about.

Disney World

Starting with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. We are still (not so patiently) waiting for an official opening date. We heard that the parks business is doing good, and the company is confident in future growth. However, we still do not have an exact date for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure to open in both Disney World and Disneyland. Disney World’s version is set to open sometime this summer, however.

We also did not hear much about the future of the parks, except that they are confident in the continued growth and excited for the future. When asked about the $60 billion capital investment, there was a strong focus on their cruise business. We did not get any other announcements about what may be coming or what to expect with the $60 billion investment.

Overall, we didn’t hear much about the parks beyond reporting on their overall performance. Disney World and Hong Kong Disneyland both saw an increase in revenue, while Disneyland experienced a decrease. However, the call did not touch much on the future expansions planned for the parks. We briefly heard Iger mention the Disneyland Forward vote that would be occurring later on May 7th, but we were a bit disappointed that not much else was announced.

Additionally, we did not get much news in regard to the succession process. Iger spoke briefly about the process saying that the committee has been meeting on a regular basis and he is participating to ensure a smooth transition to the extent that he can. We have previously heard similar sentiments in past calls, so they are not really delving much into how the process is truly going.

The Walt Disney Company reiterated some upcoming releases such as Inside Out 2 and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, but except for general comments about the future, we did find out anything new. Iger mentioned that there will be a reduction in Marvel movies going forward. We will likely see a decrease from 4 movies and 4 series per year, to 2-3 movies per year and 2 series per year. There will be more of a focus on Avengers, but other than that, we did not receive any groundbreaking Disney entertainment news.

While we wish there had been a bit more exciting news out of the earnings call, we were glad to hear that the company is doing well, and leadership is confident in the future growth and success of The Walt Disney Company. Stay tuned to AllEars for the latest Disney announcements!
