Disney is working to develop a $1.9 billion expansion in Disneyland.
The plans are called DisneylandForward, and it would bring new attractions, shops, restaurants, and more to the West Coast resort. Disney has had lots of hoops to jump through to get these plans set into motion, but they’re about to scale the last hurdle!
Monday, March 11th brought a drama-filled Anaheim Planning Commission meeting that ended with the motion to recommend the plan to the Anaheim City Council approved.
The next hurdle was the first vote at the Anaheim City Council. The City Council requires two passing votes for the plans to begin. The first of these two took place on April 16th, which passed unanimously.
The second vote is the final step before Disney can officially begin expanding Disneyland Resort. This last vote is set for May 7th! That is the day we will know if new rides, attractions, and more will be coming to Disneyland.
The purpose of the DisneylandForward project is to re-zone certain areas of Disney’s property for use beyond what they are currently designated as. This means that areas that are currently only allowed to be parking lots could become a shopping and dining district, theme park, or hotel. Disney has even mentioned a new Avatar attraction that could be built as part of these plans!

I was at Disneyland a week ago. I hadn’t been there since the early 70’s,for me,the magic was still there. Walt definitely put his heart and soul into this park,that being said,some of the rides that made the park so special are no longer there.(the people mover) for example. This ride seems to be missed by everyone,I hope the Disney company takes into consideration that keeping the park relevant is important,but bringing back some of the original attractions is what made Disneyland what it is today.
