Poseidon's Fury -- With the amazing exterior of the Poseidon's Temple, one is not quite sure what to expect as you enter the dark cave-like queue area. Is this a ride or show -- or both? It's a show where guests move from chamber to chamber with the help of Tour Guide/Archaeologist Taylor who works for Professor Baxter from the Global Discovery Group. Signs along the dark queue will give you some insight on what the group is all about. The first chamber you enter is where you will meet Taylor, who is a very nervous soul. Professor Baxter warns us to leave the undersea chamber for our own good. But do we listen? Well, that would take all the fun out of the visit. As Taylor reads the secret hidden message on the walls that encircle the chamber, Poseidon's nemesis, evil Lord Darkenon, is awakened with a warning for all of us. But do we listen? Nope. Despite the perilous warning, we move to the next secret undersea chamber filled with treasures and skeletons of previous warrior guardians, where Taylor surprisingly stumbles upon Poseidon's Trident. This could help us escape the portal that Lord Darkenon has trapped us in. By finding the Trident, Taylor awakens a goddess whose face appears in the portal that could help us escape the entombed chamber. While she cannot grant our request to return home, she can help us to reach the innermost chamber of the temple. But before we can move forward we must travel through a colossal vortex of water at 95 MPH that encircles our pathway home, which leads us farther into the depth of the underground city, Atlantis. If we ever want to get home, Poseidon must save us. With the help of Tour Guide Taylor, who now possesses Poseidon's Trident, the battle between Poseidon and the dark evil Lord Darkenon begins. Poseidon fights with water and Lord Darkenon fights with fire. This is the attraction's payoff, with thousands of gallons of water and the most spectacular pyrotechnics as good versus evil for control of Atlantis and power of the trident.
Poseidon's Fury is walk-through attraction that lasts approximately 20 minutes. The best views are in the second and third chambers are from the front row. If you stand all the way to back of the first chamber directly opposite of the podium that Taylor uses, the doors will open right behind you and you will be the first one into the next chamber. Be aware that when the doors open you will be walking through thick fog. Sign language interpreter available during certain shows. See your Park Guide for scheduled times. The nearest restrooms are located just across the bridge in Seuss Landing or directly behind the The Pearl Factory and The Coin Mint. Characters
are very limited in The Lost Continent. Merlin the Wizard
has been spotted wandering the area. Kids will enjoy The Mystic Fountain
in front of the The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad Show. Sindbad's
Village also has carnival-style games of chance themed in a Renaissance
Fair style.
Fire-Eater's Grill - Counter service restaurant serving gyros, chicken and chili dogs. (Seasonal) The Enchanted Oak Tavern - Located directly across the Plaza from Dueling Dragons. Eat inside the great Oak where you can't help but feel Merlin's presence. Dark and cool inside with ribs, smoked turkey legs, roasted corn on the cob and roasted chicken. Outdoor seating on the Inland Waterway is also available. The food seems to be better here than other counter service spots that serve ribs and chicken. A full service bar is at the far end of The Enchanted Oak Tavern, called The Alchemy Bar. Happy hour times vary. Islands of Adventure Dining at a Glance Treasures of Poseidon - Apparel, toys and souvenirs from the deep. (Seasonal) The Dragon's Keep - Dragon gear, crystals and wizard supplies. The Coin Mint - Metal coins are forged and struck before your eyes with some fun staff who really enjoy their jobs. The Pearl Factory - Pick an oyster and hopefully find a pearl. Islands

The final battle in Poseidon's Fury uses 350,000 gallons of water, 200 flame effects, including 25-foot fireballs. Water effects used in the show include water and mist screens, water cannons and mortars, and a walk-through water vortex. Every nervous Tour Guide/Archaeologist is named Taylor, which works for male and female guides. Poseidon's Fury tends to be a love it or hate it show. Most guests need to experience it a second time as did I to appreciate it. |
