Chart your course for 110 acres of adventures. Islands of Adventure opened in May 1999, making Universal Orlando the nation's second mulit-gated resort and the first Universal Park that was not completely based on the movies. Steven Spielberg served as creative consultant for this theme park, which features ground-breaking technology. Here you will find five unique Islands themed on cartoons, comic heroes and mystical legends. Unlike Universal Studios where you seamlessly move from neighborhood to neighborhood, at IOA there is no doubt you are moving from Island to Island. The music, sights and surroundings hint at what's to come. At the end of day you may feel like you have visited five different theme parks. Islands of Adventure is full of high-tech, high-energy attractions and shows. Interactive play areas and Seuss Landing will delight even the youngest of adventurers in your family. Now, let the Adventure begin...

Chart of the Islands

Port of Entry - This where your adventure begins. After passing the towering icon Lighthouse that was inspired by the Pharaohs Lighthouse of Alexandria, Egypt, one of the seven wonders of the world, you will find yourself among some of the most unique architecture in the park. Take some time and enjoy the open-air bazaar atmosphere. Guest Services, Desoto's Expeditions Photography, Christmas Shoppe and the Islands of Adventure Trading Company are located here. While this Island does not have any ride attractions, it is home to Confisco Grille, one of only two full service restaurants in Islands of Adventure and home to the Spider-Man Character Breakfast. For sandwiches or snacks, try Crescent Moon Bakery, Cinnabon or Arctic Express.  

Marvel Super Hero Island - Home to the Incredible Hulk Coaster, Storm Force Accelatron, Doctor Doom's Fearfall and the best attraction in the park, The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man. Immerse yourself in the pages of the Marvel Super Heroes and Villains as they battle for control of the city. Music and high-tech design bring this Marvel wonder Island to life. Dining choices are Cafe 4 and Captain America Diner. 

Toon Lagoon - The crazy and zany world of your favorite Sunday funnies characters step off the pages in this visually over-the-top Island. All attractions are water related here in Toon "Lagoon" so have your ponchos ready if you don't want to get soaked on Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls and Popeye & Bluto's Bilge Rat Barges. The Me Ship-The Olive, while not a water ride, is a three-level interactive play ship that has water cannons that you can use to shoot water blasts at riders on the Bilge Rat Barges below. For the photographer in your group, the top level of Me Ship-The Olive has spectacular views of the entire park. Comic Strip Lane is the place for dining, shopping and photo opportunities with live and larger than life characters as well as a few special trick photography spots located next to Blondie's. Toon Lagoon gives guests a wide selection of food choices. Blondie's: Home of the Dagwood Sandwich, Wimpy's and the Comic Strip Cafe for Asian, American and Italian. 

Jurassic Park - The largest of all the Islands and 65 million years in the making, you will feel like you stepped into the movie. As you pass through the over-sized iconic Jurassic Park Gates and you hear that unmistakable music, you will encounter a dinosaur or two... and we don't mean Barney.  The Discovery Center is a fun and educational attraction where you can watch the birth of Velociraptor or just for fun play "You Bet Jurassic". The premier attraction is the River Adventure, where your raft takes a very wrong turn and one big drop. Camp Jurassic is a kid's paradise -- a very large interactive play area with slides, climbing ropes, caves and waterfalls with the Pteranodon Flyers circling over head. Dining choices here include Burger Digs, Pizza Predattoria and Thunder Falls for rotisserie chicken, salads, roasted corn and ribs. 

The Lost Continent -You are greeted by flame-toting sea gryphons as you enter this magical Island. Mythology and mysticism come to life in this exotic island with Greek, Middle Eastern and Arthurian influences. Feeling adventurous? Explore the scorched and frozen castle on your way to ride Dueling Dragons. Want a few laughs? Then don't miss The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad Show. The Lost Continent, in addition to Fire Eaters Grill, is home to Mythos Restaurant for full service dining and the Enchanted Oak for ribs and chicken. Both offer waterside seating. Take a close look at the exterior of the Enchanted Oak and you may see a wizard.

Seuss Landing -- Immerse yourself in the whimsical architecture of Theodore Geisel's (Dr. Seuss) books. Visually stunning and geared toward the young and young at heart. You will be hard-pressed to find a straight line in the theming, even the palm trees grow in odd directions. Ride a spinning, out of control couch through a day in the life of The Cat In The Hat or choose from 54 different Seuss characters on Caro-Seuss-El. The newest addition is the High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride. Need some play time? Visit Gerald McGrew's If I Ran The Zoo. And there is nothing boring about the dining choices offered here, Circus McGurkus Cafe Stoo-pendous features fried chicken, pizza and salad in a circus tent. And how could Seuss Landing be complete without a place to get Green Eggs and Ham, which is available at its namesake restaurant. Maybe just a snack? Try Fuddnuddler Brothers Popcorn, Snookers & Snookers Sweet Candy Cookers and Moose Juice, Goose Juice. 

What's Going... Going... or Gone...?

The Island Skipper Tours - A small fleet of colorful water vessels that shuttled guests from Port Entry to the Jurassic Park Landing across the Lagoon or Inland Waterway as it was called by the boat captains. The vessels have been spotted sitting idle at the Portofino Bay Resort.

Triceratops Discovery Trail - This walk-thru attraction consisted of jungle trails with tools, machinery and gear jungle explorers might use in for a dinosaur expedition. Guests would enter one of three paddocks where you would encounter a living, breathing triceratops that was being treated by a Jurassic Park Veterinarian.   

Toon Trolley - The Trolley would arrive in front of the Toon Lagoon Amphitheater full of characters and they would perform some dancing and give guests chance for autographs and photos. Note: The Toon Trolley can now be found in Universal Studios and usually carries The Flintstones. 

Sylvester McMonkey McBean's Very Unusual Driving Machines - It is hard to put this attraction in any category as it never opened to guests. It was to be an overhead ride that toured Seuss Landing and the theming was to follow the story of the Sneetches. The queue area has been used as the Grinch's Lair for past Grinchmas meet and greets. Update: Universal officially opened The High in Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride in June 2006.
