INTRODUCTION

Dueling Dragons are two separate and unique steel roller coasters that take you on a fast and furious ride over Dragon Lake, located in the Merlin Woods area of The Lost Continent, directly across from The Enchanted Oak restaurant. They are the world's first dueling, inverted, intertwined coasters and reach heights of 125 feet and speeds of 55-60 miles per hour. And the mystical theming and story just add to the thrill of riding one of the twin dragons, Fire or Ice.

ATTRACTION

DUELING DRAGONS -- These interlooped dueling coasters are another example of Islands of Adventure's amazing signature thrill rides. Once you pass between the orange and blue stone dragons guarding the mysterious entry point, you will work your way through the long outside queue. Next, you'll enter the once majestic castle where you soon realize that things just aren't quite right. The reason: twin dragons, Fire (Pyrrock) and Ice (Blizzrock), have been using the castle as a battleground for years. Take a minute to read Merlin's plea to the gods in the open book as you start your way through the scorched and frozen castle. There is also a video that plays on a large stained glass window that tells the story of the castle. The story and theming of Dueling Dragons is one of the best for any coaster. 

After working your way past the creepy cavern that is full of skulls and bones and cute sayings like "Don't be a bonehead," Merlin will tell you it is time to "choose thy fate." Head to the left to ride Fire or to the right to ride Ice. There is one final queue area for those brave enough to ride in the front row. Both dragons (coasters), which appear to be holding riders in their claws, slowly climb the 125-foot hill but as the first drop takes place each goes in a separate direction. Riders will experience a zero-gravity roll, corkscrews, five inversions and the best part, three near misses with the other coaster. A computer weighs each coaster after loading and makes any needed adjustments to get the timing just right for the three near misses. The most thrilling close encounter comes when both Fire and Ice head straight at one another in what looks like a head-on collision waiting to happen, but at the last second with only a mere foot or two to spare, the cars spin away from each other.

Top speeds reach up to 60 MPH with the Ice coaster providing more cornering and Fire an extra inversion. This 2 minute and 25 second full tilt ride is definitely not for the faint of heart.   

TOURING TIPS

Dueling Dragons offers the Universal Express Pass System.

Guest must be 54" or taller to ride Dueling Dragons. Not recommended for expectant mothers, those with a history of neck or back conditions, heart trouble, conditions aggravated by fog effects, those wearing casts or susceptible to motion sickness. Wheelchair users must be able to transfer to the ride vehicle's seating.

The nearest restrooms are located directly across from the entrance to Dueling Dragons next to The Enchanted Oak Restaurant and The Alchemy Bar.

Electronic lockers are available free of charge for the first hour of use so you can stow loose items and bags.

KIDS AND CHARACTERS

Characters are very limited in The Lost Continent. Merlin the Wizard has been spotted wandering the area. Kids will enjoy The Mystic Fountain in front of the The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad Show. Sindbad's Village also has carnival-style games of chance themed in a Renaissance Fair style.

DINING

Mythos Restaurant - This award winning full service restaurant comes highly recommended for both its food and decor. Open for both lunch and dinner. You can dine inside the cave-like restaurant or outside on the patio that overlooks the Inland Waterway with great views of the Marvel Super Hero Island, Toon Lagoon and Jurassic Park. Items featured include soups, salads, seafood, steak and pasta. Reservations available.

Fire-Eater's Grill - Counter service restaurant serving gyros, chicken, ribs, burgers and salads. 

The Enchanted Oak Tavern - Located directly across the Plaza from Dueling Dragons. Eat inside the great Oak where you can't help but feel Merlin's presence. Dark and cool inside with ribs, smoked turkey legs, roasted corn on the cob and roasted chicken. Outdoor seating on the inland waterway is also available. The food seems to be better here than other counter service spots that serve ribs and chicken. A full service bar is at the far end of The Enchanted Oak Tavern, called the Alchemy Bar. Happy hour times vary.

The seats in the dragons are four across with eight rows. 

According to Universal, the queue for Dueling Dragons in the longest and most elaborate waiting line in the world at 3,180 feet.

Dueling Dragons can accommodate up to 3,264 guests per hour. 

Dragon Lake is actually shaped like a dragon but few people notice it while soaring over it.
