“Main
Street Electrical Parade” is ‘Glowing Away’; The Lights are on Again
for “SpectroMagic”
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- It’s time to say “good bye” to a cherished favorite. The “Main Street Electrical Parade,” one of the most beloved attractions in Disney history, will close its run at the Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom April 1, 2001. After more than 500 performances before hundreds of thousands of guests, the parade’s lights and music will dim, making way for another spectacle of nighttime entertainment and music -- “SpectroMagic.” Combining the energy of seven lightning bolts, the electrical power of a fleet of 2,000 highway trucks and a sprinkling of pixie dust, “SpectroMagic” returns to the Magic Kingdom on April 2. Like the “Main Street Electrical Parade,” “SpectroMagic” takes much-loved Disney characters and decks them out in sparkling detail. The parade features a glittering array of flowing fiber optics; holographic images; liquid-nitrogen smoke; and old-fashioned twinkle lights, precisely choreographed to an emotionally charged, original soundtrack which uses splashes and dashes of classic Disney tunes.

Spring Training, Feb. 17-April 27
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Lacrosse, softball and track & field teams from across the country will make Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex their training camp headquarters beginning Feb. 17. Seven week-long sessions of lacrosse, eight week-long sessions of softball and 10 week-long sessions of track & field will bring high school and college athletes to Disney for spring training through April 27. Though the program is relatively new (just three years), many teams are returning to the sports complex for their second or third year of Disney Spring Training. The lacrosse, softball and track & field spring training programs at Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex include some 250 high school and college teams from across the country.
