Counter Service Meals
in the Parks
The first time I visited WDW as a vegetarian, and later as a vegan,
I was a bit concerned - would I be able to find quick, satisfying meals
beyond the typical burger and fries? I was pleasantly surprised to find
that there are, in fact, quite a few choices throughout the parks and
resorts, to meet the needs of many different diets. Below, you will
find a chart showing many of the vegetarian options.
Vegan items, or items "veganizable" by omitting an ingredient
or two, are noted in the comments section. Please use this only as a
guideline -- things are always changing at WDW, and not everything here
is verified. Please also note that I have not taken refined sugar into
account, when researching vegan items. If you have allergies or other
concerns, please ask a Cast Member for more information. Most counter
service places should also have an ingredients list available by request.
For some vegan snack ideas, soft pretzels are all vegan. I believe that all Disney French fries are vegan, but if the location sells other fried items (such as chicken nuggets), then the fries are most likely cooked in the same oil. Some locations will "bake" you some fries, but be prepared for an additional wait. There are also
fresh fruit carts in all the theme parks, with some surprisingly tasty
choices. And I was surprised to learn that the popcorn sold in all the
parks is, despite its "buttery" appearance, vegan.
Also, it's worth noting that while Disney generally frowns upon outside food being brought into the parks, this policy is waived for special dietary needs. I often bring a vegan snack bar with me, "just in case." After all, this is a vacation -- if a favorite snack from home will ease your mind (and your hunger pains), it's worth having it handy. (However, alcoholic beverages and hard-sided coolers are strictly prohibited.)
New update for 2009: note that the vegetarian burgers served at the counter service locations have recently changed from the more "hamburger-like" Boca Burgers, to a very veggie Gardenburger. Also, the buns are no longer vegan, but a vegan substitute is available by request.

Main Street, USA |
Fresh Fruits, Assorted Pastries and Cakes | They now carry some Divvies - prepackaged vegan chocolate chip cookies and caramel corn! Other pastries are probably not vegan - ask for ingredients list
Adventureland |
Tortuga Tavern |
*Vegetarian Burrito *Kids' Quesadillas |
The Vegetarian Burrito is vegan as served - just ask them to skip the sour cream they provide on the side. (Rather plain on its own, but not bad when you add salsa from the toppings bar.) |
Frontierland |
*Vegetable Burger |
Vegetable Burger is most likely the current vegan "very veggie" Gardenburger (ask for ingredients list to confirm) but you will need to request a vegan bun.
Frontierland |
*(some possible snacks) | At last check, there was nothing vegan available at this location.
Liberty Square |
*Lighthouse Sandwich (with hummus and broccoli slaw) |
Lighthouse Sandwich may be vegan (ask for ingredients list -- broccoli slaw may have dairy). Salad should be vegan when ordered without chicken and cheese. (Please note that while I have always received good service here, others have reported receiving a salad with chicken after requesting the alteration.) |
|
Fantasyland |
* Cheese Individual Pizza (with or without salad) *Mediterranean Salad (ordered without chicken) includes roasted red peppers, black olives, red onions and mozzarella cheese) |
Mediterranean Salad should be vegan if ordered without meat and cheese. (Note that the Caesar Salad with Chicken most likely is not vegetarian even without the chicken. Caesar dressing traditionally includes anchovies.) |
|
Tomorrowland |
*Vegetable Sandwich *Vegetable Burger *Kids' Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich |
Not sure of ingredients in the Vegetable Sandwich. Vegetable burger is a vegan "very veggie" Gardenburger (and they have a great toppings bar here!), but you will need to ask for a vegan bun.
Tomorrowland |
Nothing vegan here, other than the PB&J. |

*Asian - Vegetable Noodle Bowl |
The Vegeta ble Noodle Bowl should be vegan as-is. The Asian Vegetarian Entree is vegan if you avoid the stir-fried rice (includes eggs). The Vegetable Flatbread Sandwich veganizable with modification - you would have to ask for ingredients list. There are also some decent vegan option in the packaged cold foods coolers. |
|
Innoventions |
Coffee
and Ice Cream |
Nothing vegan. | |
Innoventions |
* Greek Salad - with Feta cheese, olives, red onions, tomato and cucumber |
There is nothing easily veganizable available here. |

United Kingdom |
*Nothing vegetarian | Nothing vegetarian or vegan here.
France |
* assorted pastries | They may carry Divvies (prepackaged vegan treats). Other pastries are most likely not vegan, but they should have an ingredients list on hand. The French Baguette is your most likely bet.
Morocco |
*Vegetable Platter (falafel, tangierine couscous salad, hummus, tabouleh, lentil salad and marinated olives) *Various side dishes |
The Vegetable Platter has changed since my last visit, so you may want to check on the ingredients. The couscous salad, hummus, tabouleh and olives should be vegan. Not sure of the falafel, and the lentil salad may have dairy. |
|
Japan |
*
strawberry, honeydew, tangerine & rainbow Kaki-Gori (like a snowcone, only better!) |
The menu has changed - and expanded! - since my last visit. The Kaki Goris should still be vegan (without the "sweet milk" special topping). You'll need to verify the ingredients, but they now serve Edamame and Miso Soup - both of which could be vegan.
American Adventure |
* Southwest Black Bean Burger - with Monterey Jack, corn salsa, chipotle mayonnaise, lettuce & tomato *Iceberg Wedge Salad *Fruit Cup |
This menu has changed since my last visit. I'm not sure of the ingredients in the Southwest Black Bean Burger, but at best, it would need some modification. I'm also not sure of the salad. The waits at this place seem to be surprisingly bad, but if you can catch them when they're slow, it might be worth asking about ingredients and possible modifications.
China |
* Nothing * |
I've been told that everything here is prepared with chicken stock, even if it says "vegetarian".
Norway |
Various
pastries and other sweets |
They may have Divvies (prepackaged vegan treats). At one time, a vegan bear claw was offered here - if you see it, be sure to ask for ingredients list, to be sure.
Mexico |
* Empanadas de Queso * Guacamole con Totopos (guacamole & tortilla chips)* churro |
While not a full meal, the chips with guacamole are vegan - very tasty, and surprisingly substantial. |

*
Kids' Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich * various pastries and sweets |
There is a Sushi Vegetable Roll currently on the menu, though selections change daily, and I'm not sure of the ingredients. Most of the pastries and sweets have dairy and/or eggs, but you may want to ask for an ingredients list. |
|
|
* Nothing
|
There is currently nothing vegetarian or vegan "as-is" on the menu, but the cheese pizza without the accompanying Ceasar salad is probably vegetarian.
|
||
| *
soft pretzels * assorted fresh fruit and veggies |
The pretzels are vegan. Good selection of fruit. I often make a lunch from a soft pretzel and fresh fruit. Mmmmm.
|
||
|
* Vegetarian Cheeseburger (with coleslaw or fries) |
I believe that the cheeseburger is made with the vegan "very veggie" Gardenburger. If so, you should be able to order it without the cheese (but note that the coleslaw is probably not vegan, and the fries are probably cooked in the same oil with the chicken nuggets). |
||
Echo Lake |
* frozen Coca-cola and Minute Maid treats * fresh fruit and pickles |
Whole fruits and pickles are vegan. Carrots, celery and apples come with sauces that are not vegan. If you don't mind the sugar, the frozen drinks are vegan and nice on a hot day.
| * Nothing | Other than possibly chips, there is nothing vegetarian or vegan here. | ||
| * Grilled Vegetable Sandwich (black olive ciabatta roll, mushrooms, red peppers, zucchini, tomato, watercress and cheese with sundried tomato pesto and black bean salad) |
This sandwich is vegan, if ordered without the cheese. You may have to wait a bit longer for them to prepare it, but it's a very tasty and filling meal. There is also a Southwest Salad with Chicken on the menu - it may be vegan without the chicken - ask for ingredients list (not sure about the tortilla or dressing). |
||
Streets of America |
* individual cheese pizza * individual veggie pizza * tossed salad *Grilled Vegetable Sandwich |
Other than the salad, nothing vegan.
|
* Greek Salad (with olive and feta vinaigrette) * Kids' Mac & Cheese * assorted coffee drinks |
Not sure of ingredients in Grilled Vegetable Sandwich, or the Greek salad. They may be veganizable with modification - ask for ingredients list.
|
* assorted cookies and pastries * assorted coffee drinks |
Vegans should ask for ingredients list, though I'd guess that most of this is not vegan.
Commissary Lane |
* Asian salad | Ask for ingredients list. |

* Vegetable Subosaurus - grilled vegetables, mushrooms, onions, provolone, served on a toasted roll with sweet potato fries. |
The Vegetable Subosaurus is vegan when ordered without the cheese - very filling and quite good.
Discovery Island |
* Fruit Plate (with honey yogurt)
|
While not much of a choice, this is a nice plate of fruit, and when ordered without the honey yogurt, it is vegan. |
|
Asia |
* NONE * | You might ask for an ingredients list of the Mandarin Chicken Salad (minus the chicken). Otherwise, nothing on the menu appears vegetarian or vegan. |
